Vaccinated in Vancouver
In my first experiment in medical tourism I got a flu shot today. Canada seems to have plenty of vaccine and a friend of Katherine’s referred me to a pharmacy downtown. Quick and painless. Now I will have to wait and see if the Canadian mind control serum will react adversly USA mind control serum from last year.

Stanley Park
I spent most of yesterday in Stanley Park. It was awesome.
Did I mention that the Red Sox won the World Series?

Red Sox Win it All!
After seventeen years of following the Red Sox they finally won the World Series. With my normal paranoia and superstition I carefully kept my hopes hidden from the world and expected a monumental collapse at any moment. With a 3 run lead in Game 4 I was sure that all of the wasted base runners were going to come back to haunt us in the eight or ninth inning. I of course was also positive that the 3-0 start of the series was just going to get myhopes up for on more crushing defeat.
However, the Red Sox won. They won. THEY WON!. Well I guess the 100th World Series is as good a time as any to change your luck.
I really don’t know what to do with myself, in fact i am having trouble putting a name to what I am feeling. It might be elation, but I am not sure not having felt it in relation to a sports team before!
Of course i shouldn’t get to used to this, with the Expos coming to DC I will finally have a National League team to cheer for (as long as they are not playing the Red Sox), and I am positive that they have along road of losing ahead of them!

Vancouver

Finally a Vacation!
Katherine is taking a work trip to Vancouver this week, and I am tagging along to get some rest and relaxation before I go postal at the office.
Right now we are two hours west of Washington Dulles and well on our way to Seattle. From there it is a two and a half hour drive up to Vancouver.
As an experiment I am bringing our twelve inch powerbook with me to try to do some writing and keep the website updated during the trip. I may even experiment with lugging it to a coffee house or two while I am kicking about Vancouver.
We made it to New West safe and sound, it is a beautiful day, and now time to find some coffee.

Red Sox Win

The Red Sox pulled off an amazing come from behind series to beat the Yankees for the American League Championship. Yankee fans are still sports most spoiled fans.

Truck

After getting pissed off at people selling used compact trucks with 60K miles for $12,000 or more Katherine and I decided to “splurge” and buy a new truck to help us accomplish household chores.
We finally settled on a 2004 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 (with A/C).
We bought it from Pete Fulton at Ourisman Honda in Bethesda. I highly recomend going to talk to Pete if you are buying a Ford. Although he looks and sounds just like your theoretical car salesman, he didn’t give me any of the bullshit and/or lies that I was dealing with from other salesmen and dealerships.
Other good reasons to buy a car in Maryland. 1) Required processing fees are $200 less. 2) In Virginia a %.12 “usage fee” is added to the tax when purchasing a car. In Maryland the dealership must charge the %3 VA tax, but isn’t obligated to adding the usage fee.
Total price after taxes, tags, and fees was under $14K!
I was pretty excited about buying a vehicle with a total of 3 miles on the odometer! My Subaru had 19.5K miles when I bought it in ‘99.
Oh and uses so far, hauling firewood, building a base for my shed, and of course driving around.
