Opera

I am probably going to offend some Opera purists by this comment, but here it is anyway. I liked Lucia di Lammermoor quite a bit more than I liked La Boheme. It might be that the increased body count helped satiate my need for graphic violence, and while there is certainly a lot more death and destruction in Lucia di Lammermoor, I think the real reason is that the music was better written and the orchestra had a bigger part in this production.

For The Visually Inclined

I have to thank my friends at the Washington Opera for providing me with free tickets.

I have been delayed in finishing the entry regarding my visit to the Opera last week to see Lucia di Lammermoor. So for your operatic enjoyment, I present A Beginner’s Guide to Enjoying Opera.

The cute picture belongs to John Schultz creator of the guide.

There were no anvils, but someone did die!

Upon winning my free season pass to the Washington Opera I was informed that per the small print of the contest I would be receiving Wednesday tickets to the seven shows playing this seasons. However, two of the opera’s were closing on October 6th so I would be receiving weekend tickets for this weekend and next. So I scheduled one for the next day (today) and one for next Friday evening.

For the first time in my life I actually won something! I clicked on an ad on washingtonpost.com to register for free tickets from the Washington Opera. I divulged a little personal information and received the following email about a week later.
