After getting pissed off at people selling used compact trucks with 60K miles for $12,000 or more Katherine and I decided to “splurge” and buy a new truck to help us accomplish household chores.
We finally settled on a 2004 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 (with A/C).
We bought it from Pete Fulton at Ourisman Honda in Bethesda. I highly recomend going to talk to Pete if you are buying a Ford. Although he looks and sounds just like your theoretical car salesman, he didn’t give me any of the bullshit and/or lies that I was dealing with from other salesmen and dealerships.
Other good reasons to buy a car in Maryland. 1) Required processing fees are $200 less. 2) In Virginia a %.12 “usage fee” is added to the tax when purchasing a car. In Maryland the dealership must charge the %3 VA tax, but isn’t obligated to adding the usage fee.
Total price after taxes, tags, and fees was under $14K!
I was pretty excited about buying a vehicle with a total of 3 miles on the odometer! My Subaru had 19.5K miles when I bought it in ‘99.
Oh and uses so far, hauling firewood, building a base for my shed, and of course driving around.
