Not really a contest as I don’t have any prizes, and I would rather have an explanation than a caption. Now that the title of this entry has been debunked, seriously WTF is this guy doing? He is on the beach at Stanley Park, wearing a suit and a backpack. Carrying an umbrella in one hand and a long thin stick in the other. I watched him for about ten minutes and all he did was stroll along the edge of the water. More pictures here and here. Please let me know what you think this man is up to, the suspense is killing me.
My best explanation is that he is hunting for starfish or crabs, but then why the umbrella and the suit? Really it just doesn’t make much sense.

um… taking a walk?
anything more specific, i’d need to know what day of the week, what time of day, how close this is to an office or residential area, etc.

Monday, around 3pm, about a 40-50 minute walk from the closest office building.

What great pictures!
I’d guess that the umbrella is for sun protection and/or cut down on the glare. The suit really makes it interesting.

I forgot to mention that the Monday in question was Labour day, which strangely enoug h coincides with Labor Day in the US.

Some other details he is wearing white sneakers, and had to climb down a 5-6 foot sea wall to get to where he was.
It just defies logical explanation.

Perhaps he has determined that in fact society has gone completely insane. In such a case he may have determined himself to be the only sane member of society. He has donned this outfit only to appear insane and thereby live out Mr. Spock’s comment:
“In an insance society, the sane man must appear insane.”
So the real question is - how would one (such as yourself) presume to validate your own sanity vis-a-vis his behaviour (I favour behaviour over behavior as he is enjoying Labour day). Perhaps he thought it odd and without logical explanation that you should be photographing him with a telephoto lens?
